I was also concerned about the pop culture references of sororities that overemphasize looks and social status rather than inspiration and heart. Despite my fears, I took the leap and joined Alpha Phi and was able to discover the power of a group of women coming together to support one another and work toward positive change in the world. I was inspired by fellow Alpha Phi's and was exposed to women studying a wide array of subjects and striving to various ends. Without Alpha Phi I would not have had that opportunity. It meant so much to me to learn about the founding of Alpha Phi and the women who fearlessly led before us to fight for women's rights. There is nothing more powerful than a group of women fighting for change together!
I have received so much support from Alpha Phi as a whole, and from dear friends who are members. I am embarking on my second career and have been incredibly grateful of Alpha Phi's support as I endeavor to make a difference in the anti-human trafficking movement. It is my hope to reduce the exploitation of vulnerable populations.
It is not just my second career that Alpha Phi has supported, but my prior career as a singer-songwriter saw me going to Puerto Rico, Tucson, and San Diego to perform at Alpha Phi Conventions. Aside from the incredible fun it was, the support of my career and the love of the Alpha Phi members meant the world to me. Having the support of Alpha Phi and the Foundation donors has been integral to giving me the vote of confidence I need to embark on this second career later in life, as well as financial support that has allowed me to focus on my studies. I am happy to report a 4.29 GPA!
