A new year brings renewed hope, reflection and exciting change. Alpha Phi chapters have installed new executive boards and officers to carry on their legacy and improve our sisterhood by solving problems.

But how does Alpha Phi solve problems that do not go away when the ball drops at midnight- the ones our sisters spend sleepless nights thinking about?

Although the problem might be complicated, one answer is simple: the Forget Me Not Fund.

Sophomore year brought those types of sleepless troubles to my chapter, when my best friend and her alumna sister lost their childhood home to the Colorado Wildfires. As the fires raged on, she shared with me her fears of not having a home due to something completely out of her control. When her house was consumed, her family was displaced for over a year.

Our homes are our safe havens - a warm and loving place to go at night when nothing else seems to be going right. It is easy to say Alpha Phi is a safe haven for sisters in times of joy and distress - a warm and loving place to return to no matter how your day went. But for my sister, a safe haven came when Alpha Phi Foundation provided her family with a Forget Me Not Grant.

Our Chapter President applied for the grant on her behalf, knowing it could help in ways we could not. Through this grant, her family was able to get back on their feet and restore their home.

The Forget Me Not Fund helps us solve problems, but it is not possible without the support of our sisters as donors. When we give, we help a sister sleep better at night knowing she has an entire sisterhood that helps her up when times are down. In the blue of the Forget Me Not, we discern one message: Remember Me, so on this night we remember our sisters near and far that need a helping hand.
