Alumna's $25,000 Gift Helps Sisters in Need

"Forget me not dear friend,
for I will always remember thee."

Alpha Phis stood together during Convention 2014 to support sisters in need - raising more than $41,000 for the Forget Me Not Fund. Gifts to this fund provide assistance grants to alumnae who are facing severe financial distress, serious health issues, the consequences of natural disasters and urgent family crisis and to collegians who face an interruption of education due to unforeseen personal or financial struggles.

With these donations, 17 sisters in need will receive a Forget Me Not Grant, and the greatest gift of all: the knowledge that their sisters care and are always there to help.

These grants are made possible in large part through the generosity of Marilyn Collins Denno (Gamma Beta-UC/Santa Barbara). Marilyn joined Foundation Board Chair Diane Spry Straker (Delta Alpha-East Carolina) for lunch and afternoon sessions one day during Convention.

In the time the two spent together they reflected on their own Alpha Phi experiences, and Marilyn presented Diane with a $25,000 gift to the Forget Me Not Fund. Marilyn's been a supporter of the Forget Me Not fund for years, as she believes in the "importance of this type of giving - to people who have come about hard times in one way or another."

"Marilyn's generous and compassionate gift is an exceptional demonstration of the love and support Alpha Phi extends to our sisters, even those we may never meet," said Diane. "We are grateful to her for giving us the opportunity to help more sisters in need today get back on their feet tomorrow."

With this gift, Marilyn once again honors her commitment to always remember our sisters, remember Alpha Phi.
