In March of 2005, Courtney was diagnosed with leukemia. On track to make partner at her law firm and advising one of Alpha Phi's healthiest chapters Eta Theta (San Francisco State), Courtney did not let her illness get in her way. She traveled the world, attended every Eta Theta function, was available for the chapter women at all hours, and continued to work full time.
On November 16, 2006, Courtney passed away. Her spirit continues to live in the women whose lives she touched, and now through the Courtney Andreas-Gray Memorial Scholarship.
