Chapter Spotlight – Theta Sigma (Southern Utah)
This week’s Chapter Spotlight is on Theta Sigma (Southern Utah), our Western Quadrant’s Most Improved Fundraiser. Former Director of Philanthropy and Clara’s Circle Leadership Council member Bree Pitkin shares with us her inspiration to embrace the spirit of giving which helped the chapter achieve 67% fundraising growth.
When I first joined Alpha Phi, I took the position of Director of Philanthropy where I was able to plan a week of philanthropy events to raise money for Alpha Phi Foundation. To see the generous hearts of the Alpha Phi women in my chapter was breathtaking. Planning that week of events and my sisters’ active engagement and participation made me fall in love with Alpha Phi.
My final Red Dress Gala was one of the best experiences I have ever had in Alpha Phi, and it’s my favorite philanthropy memory. With the help of a whole lot of coffee, we worked late nights and early mornings for an entire week to raise as much money as possible. All of that hard work paid off when we raised over $12,000 – far surpassing anything we’d previously raised. In that moment, we realized the impact that our small chapter could have on the community, the Foundation and on each other. That is something I will never forget.
If I could go back and redo one part of my experience in this organization, I would have started giving sooner and encourage the members of my chapter to do the same.I hope you don’t repeat my mistakes by waiting too long to start giving back; it is something you will likely regret, as I have. Enjoy every moment.
