by Sarah Rayman in Focus on Philanthropy

Earlier this year, Alpha Phis traveled to Los Angeles and Washington D.C. for Alpha Phi’s Leadership Conferences, where Alpha Phi Foundation recognized the 2020 Excellence in Philanthropy Award Winners. These awards recognized chapters and their philanthropic efforts during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Thank you to our 2020 Excellence in Philanthropy award winners for their spirit of philanthropy and commitment to Alpha Phi! Please join us in celebrating their achievements:

Innovation Award

This award recognizes a chapter in each quadrant whose event demonstrated creative fundraising and innovative event planning.

Omega (Texas)

This year we celebrated Nu (Nebraska) with Super Bowl, a bowling philanthropy, and Delta Gamma (Northern Colorado) with their PHI-SPN, their philanthropy week. These chapters exemplified innovation in their events through creative marketing and merchandise, as creative naming, and by making strategic changes to the event from year to year.

Our East and South Quadrant winners were Eta (Boston) with their Alpha Phifa soccer tournament and Omega (Texas) with Phis Under Seas Brunch for Lunch. These chapters were innovative in securing event sponsors while providing fun activities for their guests with the all-inclusive ticket. They capitalized on campus and community connections to strengthen their event and cut down on spending!

Most Improved Philanthropy

Eta Upsilon (Chapman)

This award recognizes chapters whose philanthropic efforts have grown significantly from one year to the next.

Eta Upsilon (Chapman) and Delta Theta (Western Michigan) were both recognized for 2020 Most Improved Philanthropy. Both chapters increased their fundraising significantly by goal-setting, utilizing GiveSmart, and planning experience-driven events. Tightening their budget and working closely with their advisors also contributed to their success.

Gamma Xi (Wichita State)

Iota Upsilon (Ottawa) and Gamma Xi (Wichita State) also received the 2020 Most Improved Philanthropy Award. The women of these chapters work to establish a stronger philanthropic presence, service-focused marketing, community relationships, and stewardship efforts. Their efforts also included growing their Red Dress events and adding smaller philanthropic efforts to their calendar that activated their Greek community and other campus organizations.
