Chapter Spotlight – Gamma Pi (Arizona State)
This week’s Chapter Spotlight is Gamma Pi (Arizona State) who raised over $22,000 at their 2013 Move Your Phi’t event! Vice President of Marketing Nicole Baron shares some tips with us.
Event Name: Move Your Phi’t
Location: Freestone Park, Gilbert, AZ
How many times have you held this event?
3 (I think!)
What changes did you make to this year’s event?
This year we decided we wanted to involve the fraternity men more than in years past, so we added a fraternity competition that took place after the 5K race. The competition consisted of a watermelon eating contest, relay races, tug-of-war, top 3 in the 5K, t-shirt sales and highest attendance.
How did these changes impact this year’s event?
The turnout was incredible compared to our last Move Your Phi’t! We had over 300 people register for the 5K race and had 17 fraternity teams participate.
How did your chapter publicize this event?
Banners on campus, flyers around campus and the Tempe community, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), mass email sent to friends, family and alumnae of Alpha Phi and tabling on campus.
What do you think worked well for your event that other chapters would benefit from?
Adding the fraternity competition was a HUGE hit. It made our event much better and got the Greek community pumped to participate.
We also had a dedicated planning committee which was crucial to our event’s success. Our Committee consisted of VP Marketing, Director of Philanthropy, Director of PR/Advertising, Director of Finance and any other ladies who wanted to participate. It was a great group of leaders working cohesively to manage, plan, market, watch finances and discuss ideas.
Also, you need help setting up the actual event and having a “set-up” committee of ladies you can rely on is very helpful.
