Remembering Alpha Phi with Alexis Lux
With a love of philanthropy born out of her collegiate experience, for Alexis Lux (Beta Omega-Kent State), the meaning of leading with heart continues to evolve.
After witnessing her husband Craig Sutter, a past junior Olympian, endure a severe heart attack during his regular Peloton bike ride, Alexis was reminded of and found new insight into Alpha Phi Foundation’s commitment to the advancement of cardiac care and research.
It was at a recent Delta Delta (Oklahoma City) Chapter’s Red Dress Gala that Craig learned of Alpha Phi’s philanthropic focus and of the risks associated with women’s heart health. At that moment, they never could have anticipated experiencing a cardiac event so close to home.
Now more than ever following Craig’s recovery, Alexis appreciates the impact Alpha Phi Foundation’s Heart to Heart Grant and Women’s Heart Health Program has in advancing heart health education and supporting cardiac clinical bench research.
Her hope for Alpha Phi is that it continues to provide a space for women to build a strong community of support and to receive mentorship, develop leadership skills, and strengthen a spirit of generosity and charitable giving.
Leaving a Legacy
Confident that Alpha Phi is bringing up the next generation of women leaders, Alexis and Craig recently named Alpha Phi Foundation as a beneficiary of their family legacy fund.
“Alpha Phi helped me grow as a leader when I was an impressionable 19-year-old, first-generation college student just figuring out my life,” said Alexis.
“My advisors treated me with grace, allowing me to grow and teaching me valuable lessons that have stayed with me to this day. I learned how to navigate hard conversations with sisters that prepared me for conversations with colleagues as a leader in my career. I know that I would not be where I am today— with my passion for philanthropy, professional skillset, and ability to manage others—without my Alpha Phi experience.”
By including Alpha Phi Foundation in their legacy gift, Alexis and Craig demonstrate their strong commitment to the future of Alpha Phi as a premier leadership organization. For all the ways Alpha Phi has impacted her life, Alexis pays it forward to thank those who came before her and support those who will come after.
“I want to help ensure that Alpha Phi is around well beyond my lifetime. The way to do this is with a meaningful and impactful planned gift. We did not want to restrict the use of our gift, but I guarantee the need will be there however that takes shape.”
