Taking Philanthropy from Offline to Online!

by Sarah Rayman in Focus on Philanthropy

While in-person philanthropy events have been put on hold for the time being, these chapters got creative and took their fundraising online! Check out the events below and find the inspiration to host your own virtual philanthropy event!

Zeta Gamma takes Red Dress Gala online

The women of Zeta Gamma forged ahead with their annual spring Red Dress Gala. Although it was not in-person, the women found success by hosting an online silent auction via GiveSmart. Their event “hosted” 89 donors and featured 22 auction items, raising nearly $14,000 for Alpha Phi Foundation.

“I did not expect [GiveSmart] to be that easy, and in the end it turned out great,” says VPCR Hana.

She recommends sending messages to your guests throughout the event and to have the auction countdown prominently displayed on the event site.

Tau hosts Alpha Phi e-gaming soccer tournament

Our Tau sisters hosted a virtual Alpha Phifa mid-May using GiveSmart and Battlefy, an e-sports tournament platform.  Nearly 40 men from Oregon’s campus competed in the event, and the virtual event raised almost $2,500 for Alpha Phi Foundation!

VPCR Melanie took the reins in researching Battlefy and coordinating the logistics, working with Alpha Phi Fraternity’s Risk Reduction team, and her advisors to review contracts and terms of agreement with the third-party vendor, and creating a GiveSmart page to collect team ticketing and donations.

“Take a big philanthropy event your chapter will miss due to coronavirus and think of ways you can bring it online. Even if it ends up being nothing similar to what they event would have been in-person, your members will still appreciate the effort and will love the idea you come up with. It’s a really rewarding experience to be able to do some good in such a weird time.”

Kappa organizes profit-share fundraiser with Gorjana Jewelry

Hosting an online profit share fundraiser is easy to plan and even easier to support! Kappa organized a virtual profit share fundraiser with Gorjana Jewelry, where 19% of each purchase was donated to Alpha Phi Foundation.

VPCR Christine used GiveSmart to send an email to all attendees of their winter Red Dress Gala letting them know about another opportunity to give!
