Having this financial assistance will allow me to pursue an LLM in Criminal Justice & Penal Change at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. This program will provide me an essential platform from which to develop my professional career where I will be able to redress issues of gendered violence and human rights abuses. I am grateful that I will not only be able to investigate the intersection of law, crime, and justice, but also apply what I learn from other nation’s legal systems to my future work in the US as a lawyer and eventual judge.

Courtney Liu will pursue an MFA in Dance at Duke University this Fall. Her thesis is inspired by her experience as a professional dancer/teacher (Phantom of the Opera Broadway Cast, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake) and will explore the connections between ballet education, body image, and weight.

I am deeply honored to be the recipient of this generous scholarship from Alpha Phi towards my medical school education in pursuit of my passion for cardiothoracic surgery. I have spent the past several years, including my senior honors thesis, researching regenerative cures for heart failure and have seen first-hand the tremendous life-saving potential of the research at the heart of the Alpha Phi Foundation.
