Alpha Phi Foundation Awards $430,000 in Academic Scholarships

Alpha Phi Foundation recognizes 83 outstanding scholars whose academic excellence and achievements make us proud to be Alpha Phis.

After a rigorous application process, Alpha Phi Foundation is proud to announce that 83 Alpha Phis will receive an academic scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year, totaling $430,000.  

This year’s application cycle proved to be more competitive than in recent years, demonstrating how the need for academic scholarships is more prevalent than ever. Compared to the 2021-2022 cycle, the Foundation saw a 33% increase in the number of applications received from our membership.  

According to the Education Data Initiative, 95% of all individual educational debt comes from student loans. Although the rate of increase for loans has slightly decreased over the last ten years, the total student loan debt balance is up to $1.73 billion.   

This year’s Alpha Phi Foundation Scholars are comprised of 52 undergraduate and 31 graduate members, representing 58 chapters and receiving awards ranging from $1,000 to $77,000. Areas of study for our recipients range widely from medicine to architecture, mental health counseling to finance, and data science to education. 

Applicants for Alpha Phi Foundation scholarships are required to provide information regarding their academics and extracurricular activities, displaying their involvement in Alpha Phi, their commitment to leadership and service, and their educational goals and aspirations. All applications are read and reviewed by Alpha Phi alumnae serving as volunteer Scholarship Readers. This year’s 150 readers scored applications based on several factors, including honors and awards, leadership and volunteerism activities, essay submissions, recommendation letters, and overall application impression.
