Update (November 1, 2021): Since the publishing of this article on August 17, 2020, Lita has reached a milestone of 46 years of consecutive giving to Alpha Phi Foundation. Thank you, Lita, for continuing to lead with heart to support our Fraternity, sisters, and women everywhere now and into the future!
Since 1956, Alpha Phi members have been making Alpha Phi Foundation their philanthropy of choice, knowing that through their generosity, they advance women’s lives through the power of philanthropy. Their donations help fund leadership programming, provide scholarships and assistance grants, and invest in important women’s heart health research and initiatives.
To recognize our sisters’ longtime support and loyalty to Alpha Phi, we established the Alpha Phi Foundation Lifetime Giving Award. This award is presented to an Alpha Phi alumna whose contributions to the annual fund over a significant amount of time demonstrates her lifetime dedication to Alpha Phi.
In July of 2020, the inaugural award was presented to Lita Putnam Schaffer (Delta Gamma-Northern Colorado) for her unparalleled generosity and 44 years of consecutive giving.
Initiated in 1967, Lita’s connection to Alpha Phi has been a constant in her life. Once a volunteer at the chapter and international levels, as well as a charter member and officer for the Livermore Valley Alumnae Chapter, she now stays connected through her support of Alpha Phi Foundation, her 40+-year friendships with local sisters, and by staying up to date on all things Alpha Phi via the Quarterly Magazine and email communications.
Reflecting on the impact Alpha Phi made on her, Lita shared that “Alpha Phi reinforced [her] kind and caring nature.” She hopes Alpha Phi continues to “provide sisterhood, opportunities for women to gain leadership skills, and a network of support for their lifelong endeavors.”

Through her unwavering support for Alpha Phi Foundation’s mission and belief in Alpha Phi, Lita has contributed to a legacy of generosity. It is a legacy that inspires and moves sisters like us to support one other in lifelong achievement now and for generations to come. Thank you, Lita!
